Braces and Vacation
Summer is coming up, which means traveling and vacations. Don’t forget to take care of your braces or Invisalign while on vacation, and maybe take a few items with you to help along the way!
Items that are handy to have when traveling:
· Toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss!
· Advil, Tylenol, or other pain relievers. If you are traveling internationally or camping far away from a general store, you might want to have this on hand.
· Fingernail or toenail clippers. Most of our wires can be clipped with a good pair of nail clippers. If something is pokey, you can very carefully clip and remove the irritating piece of wire.
· New Invisalign aligners and your case. If you will be gone for more than a few days, don’t forget your next aligners!
Don’t forget- almost anything in orthodontics is fixable. So, please take good care of your appliances and DO have fun!
If something does come up, for instance if a bracket comes loose while on vacation, leave it alone and call us when you get back. If it is irritating, place some wax over it to cushion the area. If you experience sores or scratchy areas while away, a warm salt water rinse can do wonders! Just get a warm cup of water and mix in 2 tsp of salt and swish for 1 entire minute. Do this multiple times a day. If you get hit or injured, please make sure to visit the nearest ER as soon as possible.
We want all of our patients to have a happy, healthy, and FUN summer! Just make sure to take good care of your teeth and braces along the way!
